your most inconvenient desire

What’s your most inconvenient desire? The one about which you often think, “If only I didn’t want to [insert desire] so badly, my life would be so much easier?”

We all have a desire like this. It’s usually something simple, something that we’ve always wanted, but it doesn’t quite fit in with our picture of what a sensible life is. The desire is often highly un-sensible, the thing that makes our life feel difficult.

This desire probably causes some sort of tension.

Either you resist it, burying it deeply, completely ignoring it — which leads to resentment, feeling unfulfilled, bad behavior, or even health problems. Or maybe you begrudgingly make space for it it in your life — but just a little space. Not too much because, after all, this desire isn’t as important as all your “goals” and “shoulds.”

You might immediately know what it is, or it might be so buried & rejected that it takes some digging. Or perhaps it’s an underlying motivation for the way you’ve arranged your life, but you’ve never acknowledged it before.

Whatever your current relationship to this desire is, it’s hugely important to figure it out and be honest with yourself about it. Wonder why? I’ll tell you in the next post ;)
